How do I set up Geofence Arming Reminders on Android devices?

Geofence Arming Reminders use your phone’s location services. For any of these location-based features to work, the app must have full-time access to those location services.

On the Remote Services app:

  • Touch   to open the main menu, then Settings and then Geofence
  • If your account has more than one Location, select the one where you're making the setting (if you change your mind or if you're setting more than one, press < at the top to switch Locations)
  • Make sure Geofence arming reminders are turned On
    • If you find this switch turned On already, touch Edit Geofence to make sure the location is set correctly
  • On the map, the selected location appears, circled by the Geofence's default radius
  • Enter the address in the field at the top of the screen
  • With the Location selected, touch and drag the blue dot to set the radius of the geofence
  • Touch SAVE at the bottom of the screen
  • Touch OK

In your phone's settings

Note: The Android operating system can differ with the manufacturer of the device, so you may need to look around for these settings.

  • Open your device’s Settings (the icon should look something like this ).
  • Find the Location settings. On some devices, this is found under Connections, on others it may be under Personal.
  • Make sure Location is turned On
  • Set the Locating method to High accuracy; this uses GPS and Wi-Fi to calculate the location of your device
    • Specifically, you do not want options like "Battery Saving" or "Tablet Only"
    • If your device offers additional settings like Improve Accuracy, we do not recommend fooling around with options such as Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning
  • The Location settings page may also offer shortcuts to the most recent apps that used Location services (see the part of the screen labeled RECENT LOCATION REQUESTS).
    • If you see such a shortcut labeled TC 2.0 or with your security dealer's name for the Remote Services app, select it.

    • If there isn't a shortcut to the Remote Services app on the Locations page, return to the Settings menu and select Apps.
  • Find the Remote Services app and select it.
    • On the app’s main screen, touch Permissions.
    • On the Permissions screen, make sure Location is enabled.

(On some devices, you may be able to see a detailed view of app permissions.)
  • Return to the Settings main menu and open Battery settings. (On some devices, this may be under Device Maintenance.)
  • Under Power saving mode, select OFF.

Remember that the Remote Services app must be allowed to run in the background and should never sleep.
